What began as an intimate event for buyers and fashion editors is now one of the most talked about events among fashionistas around the world. Every year, consumers look to see what the hot, new trends are for the spring and fall seasons at New York Fashion Week. This year was no exception.

As New York’s spring 2015 Fashion Week came to a close, not only were leather fabrics and soft yellow hues the talk of the room – but the “wearables” took center stage. While mobile technology has been traditionally used for sharing photos, videos and updates throughout the event, it now even debuts right on the runway.

Some of the highlights from this season’s catwalk, include:

  • Intel introduced a smart bracelet with messaging and other functions, to be sold at Barneys New York

  • Ralph Lauren launched a Polo Tech shirt, which transmits data to a smartphone or tablet
  • Elie Tahari paid tribute to Apple with his infamous mesh iPhone 6 dress
  • Rebecca Minkoff unveiled new tech-enabled pieces, such as a gold chain-link studded bracelet that notifies the wearer to calls and texts

Elite fashion designers are not the only ones using mobile technology in their work – reporters and bloggers rely heavily on it. Fashion editors and bloggers are constantly sharing news about Fashion Week in real-time from tablets and smartphones to give their readers a taste of the trends straight from their seats at the show.

In an effort to keep them connected with the latest and greatest mobile technology, Verizon Wireless sent six editors and bloggers to New York Fashion Week shows with XLTE-enabled devices, allowing them to seamlessly share their fashion experiences on the nation’s largest and most reliable network. Utilizing the hashtag #VZWNYFW across various social media platforms, they created a unique, behind-the-scenes dialogue – straight from the runway.

As Fashion Week continues across the globe, mobile technology will continue to shape the conversation and influence what we see on the runway.
