Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month in the U.S. – and there is so much to celebrate, from our culture to our progress and our food and music, Latinos truly put a unique spin on everything we do! On today’s episode of Enterate con Verizon, host Jennifer Marin explores the many impacts our Latinidad has had within Verizon and the beyond. And, our very own Chief Marketing Officer Diego Scotti kicked things off with a special message.

Did you know that approximately 62 million people of Hispanic descent live in the United States today? That’s a lot of culture to celebrate. Which is why every year Hispanic Heritage month is officially observed from today September 15 - October 15 – coinciding with the Independence Day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

The power of bringing your most authentic self to work.

V Teamer Joe Nieves shared with us that he didn’t always bring his full self to work – including his Puerto Rican culture and collection of tattoos – until he realized that embracing his roots unlocked his full potential. Joe talks about the dichotomy between being raised by Puerto Rican immigrants and growing up in the states. He also shared that in an effort to climb the corporate ladder he found himself losing touch with who he really was. He described a moment at a Holiday work event that made him realize that being himself was his superpower. Joe also gives back to his community by speaking at schools and inspiring young kids to believe that a better path exists for them, because it existed for him.

“Representation 100% matters, growing up I didn't have many examples to look up to,” Joe said. “I had to go through my trials and tribulations alone, I didn't have someone that showed me there was a different way that looked like me.”

One Unlimited para iPhone.

By now, we all know that the new iPhone 14 was recently announced. Simultaneously, we also launched our new exclusive plan: One Unlimited for iPhone. It’s the only phone plan in the U.S. with Apple One, meaning you get Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and iCloud+, all bundled together!

Get up to $480 in annual value included when your family gets One Unlimited for iPhone and has a connected device. Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade are all ad-free and running on Verizon’s award-winning network, and all available to customers with new or current devices.

Cantor and a Colombian legend are comin’ to Cali!

As you saw in our last episode, soccer is a huge passion point for our entire community. That’s why we have an ongoing partnership with Argentine sportscaster Andres Cantor and Futbol de Primera.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage we’ll have some special store events with Cantor and Colombian soccer legend Pibe Valderrama(!!!) taking place on September 23 in Los Angeles and September 26 in San Jose. Here are the locations:

LA: 8300 Van Nuys Blvd, Panorama City, California

San Jose: 1150 S King Rd, Suite 10, San Jose, California.

Stay connected with Global Choice.

One of the few things Latinos love more than soccer is of course our families.

For those of us that have immigrated to a new country, we know firsthand just how important it is to stay connected – and Verizon is making it easier for us to stay in touch with our loved ones in Latin America with Global Choice.

Now you can call one of 17 countries in Latin America, including Cuba, at no cost with select 5G Unlimited plans. And, as always, talk and text to Mexico and Canada is included on select 5G Unlimited plans.

Getting the credit you deserve.

Speaking of moving to another country, another reality that many of us and our families face is the challenges that come with not having a credit history – which makes a simple task like getting a phone really complicated.

Thanks to our partnership with Nova Credit, Verizon is the first carrier in the U.S. to provide new to the country customers access to device financing on the network America relies on.

People who arrive in the United States from eligible countries like Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Spain, among others, have the ability to use the credit history they’ve already built in their home country to finance a device for 0% interest with credit approval – opening up opportunities beyond bringing your own device or prepaid phone plans.

V Teamers can celebrate all month long with SOMOS.

Our SOMOS Employee Resource Group has been hard at work planning events to engage with all of you throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. In case you didn’t know - SOMOS is Verizon’s Hispanic Employee Resource Group and more than 5k+ employees make up this ERG.

This year the theme of our month-long celebration is – Our Past, Our Heritage, Mi Gente – and new SOMOS Global lead, Alizanette Rodriguez, joined Jennifer to highlight a couple of the many (33 in total) events.

Thursday, October 6, 1-1:45 PM ET – SOMOS Latinas will present “Viva la Mujer!” An open panel discussion with Latinas about being Latina in and outside Verizon. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate and uplift each other, provide resources and continue to build a strong network of Latinas at Verizon together. Again that’s October 6th from 1-1:45pm Eastern time.

Monday, October 10, 1-2PM ET - Thanks to our SOMOS and NBC Universal Partnership, we’re hosting Top Chef Maria Mazon, who’ll be joining us for a cooking segment showcasing our Latin cuisine.
